1st June 2010 - Welsh Assembly Government launches new violence against women campaign.

The Wales Domestic Abuse Helpline provides information on practical options for those experiencing or are affected by domestic abuse.

When you contact the Helpline you can expect:

  • Highly trained, committed, experienced staff to take your call
  • Assistance to make your own decisions without pressure
  • To be treated with dignity and respect at all times
  • As much time as you need to explain your situation and experience
  • Your call to be treated in a confidential nature

Helpline staff will:

  • Assess the level of your safety based on the information you provide
  • Treat your safety as paramount
  • Assist each caller to identify their individual situation
  • Provide you with the information for you to consider
  • Identify local, accessible refuge accommodation for women if you need to leave your home
  • Provide you with information on how to assess local support services or agencies

The Helpline operates on the following principles:

  • Empowerment: we will talk youthrough your options to enable you to make your own decisions about what you wish to do next.
  • Safety: Focus on assisting you to find ways on how to increase your personal safety.
  • Accessibility: The Helpline is available 24 hours a day, fully bilingual, and has access to TypeTalk and Language Line services.
  • Partnership: We will signpost you to the most relevant agency for you.
